Rachael Nagel: Driving Relationships One Connection at a Time.

Rachael Nagel, Lodge Coordinator at American House Jenison, is often singled out as someone who exemplifies excellence and is even known to get behind the wheel of the community bus when a driver is needed.

“I just really enjoy my job. I have one of the best jobs on campus. I spend a lot of time with the residents and get to know them very well. I enjoy hearing their stories and providing events and activities for them. I want to bring joy and purpose to their lives.”

Rachael grew up knowing she wanted to go into a career to help others. She studied recreational therapy, which lead to her current role. “My first job was in a senior living community as a kitchen server. From there the senior living path just continued. I enjoy being around our residents and being in this type of environment. Having started during the pandemic, I liked being the one who provides activities. The residents are very appreciative and always saying thank you.”

Rachael thrives in working with people within the Jenison community and the entire Life Enrichment team as well. She especially enjoys coming up with new ideas for the residents. “The bus trips to different restaurants in the area are always the best. I like it all though. Everything is fun.”

Jonathan Book, Executive Director at American House Jenison, said Rachael is invested in all the seniors at the community. “Honestly, Rachael cares so much about everything she does that it’s going to be more than just a well-planned event or activity for our residents. Rachel always finds a way to make everything extra special. I’ve never heard her complain about anything.”

Jonathan pointed out that whenever residents have a concern, they go straight to Rachael about it. “Rachael has worked hard at building meaningful relationships with the seniors here,” he said. “She brings a list of concerns when we meet once a week that we work together to change for the better. Rachael is so well-connected to the residents it makes a huge difference for me in terms of quality of life that they have. The lodge is their home and Rachael wants them to be happy here.”
