Our Backbone of America program supports America’s union workers.

With so many American House Senior Living Communities located in Michigan, many of our residents’ lives have touched the manufacturing industry, especially automotive. As we have long supported union workers and are committed to serving those who serve our country, we are proud to announce a new program called the Backbone of America. For any senior who has been a member of the United Auto Workers and North America’s Building Trades Unions, this initiative will provide a lifetime 10% discount on rent at any of over 60 American House communities.

Those union workers who’ve dedicated themselves to working to the highest standards will find comfort in the care of our American House teams who live and work by our RITE On! core values of respect, integrity, teamwork and excellence. As American House residents, they will enjoy a maintenance-free lifestyle with individualized quality care and a full calendar of engaging activities and festive events. Premium services and amenities include chef-prepared, restaurant-style meals, a full-service salon and barber shop, fitness center, transportation, housekeeping and laundry.

President of American House, Jeff Floyd, said, “At American House, we value the long history and valuable contributions of the United Auto Workers and North America’s Building Trades Unions, both the current members and those retired. We welcome them to American House and look forward to serving union members who desire or need independent, assisted living or memory care service. We are here for you and your families!"

The Backbone of America caught the interest of McKnights Senior Living, who wrote an online story about this unique program.

Another program that exemplifies our commitment to our nation’s hardworking heroes is Honor Manor, a 20-unit Independent Living residence on the grounds of American House Jenison. With this community within a community, veterans and their spouses will find a comfortable, relaxing place to enjoy the company of family, friends and fellow servicemen and women.
